Dr Tayana Silva de Carvalho Grosserichter
I'm Dr Tayana Silva de Carvalho Grosserichter. As a biomedical scientist and nutritionist with a doctorate and over a decade of research experience, I focus on questions that particularly concern the human brain: How can the right diet protect our brain? What happens in our body as we age? And how can we maintain our health in the long term through conscious choices?
Background
Doctor of Natural Sciences (PhD), biomedicine (University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany)
Postdoctoral mentoring programme (Ruhr University Bochum, Germany)
Master of Science, neuroscience and cell biology (Universidade Federal do Pará, Brazil)
Specialist, clinical nutrition (Universidade Gama Filho, Brazil)
Bachelor of Science, nutritional sciences (Centro Universitário do Pará, Brazil)
Clinical nutritionist (Hospital Metropolitano, Brazil)
What drives me
Have you ever wondered why some people seem mentally sharper than others of the same age? Or why certain diets work wonders for some people but not for others? In my research, I look for answers to exactly these questions – with the aim of turning scientific findings into practical health solutions.
I am particularly fascinated by the link between nutrition and brain health. How can we strengthen our memory, reduce stress and feel full of vitality well into old age by choosing the right nutrients?
My career
While studying nutritional sciences in Brazil, I realised early on that superficial nutrition tips are not enough for me. I want to understand how food works in our bodies at a molecular level and what deeper mechanisms lie behind it.
After my bachelor's degree, I first specialised as a clinical nutritionist and gained hands-on experience working directly with patients. This time taught me how important it is to communicate scientific findings clearly and to find individual solutions.
After completing my master's in neuroscience and cell biology, I moved to Germany for further training, where I gained my doctorate in biomedicine at the University of Duisburg-Essen. These years shaped my understanding of the complex links between nutrition, metabolism and brain function.
Specialising in neuronutrition
One focus of my work is so-called "neuronutrition" – the study of how certain nutrients affect our brain. In more than 25 scientific publications, I have been able to show:
- How a calorie-conscious diet can protect the brain from age-related changes
- What role antioxidants play in preventing stress and anxiety
- How protein restriction has a positive effect on brain health
- Why certain superfoods such as açaí have been shown to improve memory and mood
International recognition
For me, science without practical relevance is unthinkable. That is why I have been active in both research and teaching for more than 10 years and have also spent several years in patient care. As a postdoctoral researcher at the renowned Heart and Diabetes Centre NRW, I manage scientific projects and presentations and prepare expert reports.
Alongside this, I work as a lecturer and pass on my knowledge to the next generation of nutrition experts. My research is also valued internationally and is reflected in more than 25 scientific publications. I work as a reviewer for scientific journals, have served as a committee member at European neuroscience conferences and am currently taking part in the postdoc mentoring programme at the University of Bochum.
What I bring to Melinava
At Melinava, I combine my years of scientific expertise with a deep understanding of the complex needs of women and people in midlife. Whether you are going through a phase of physical change, struggling with stress and lack of time, or want to optimise your vitality and energy in a targeted way – I recommend these high-quality food supplements to my patients, as they are based on scientific evidence and deliver real results.
My focus is on:
