Recommended dosage

Melinava Liposomal L-Arginine provides 280 mg of pure L-arginine per capsule in a liposomal complex of 400 mg in total.

Take 1 capsule daily with plenty of water, ideally on an empty stomach or between meals. For best results, we recommend taking it regularly for at least 6 weeks.

Tip if you have difficulty swallowing

Place the capsule in your mouth with plenty of water and tilt your head forward (towards your chest). This makes swallowing much easier. Alternatively, you can empty the contents of the capsule into a glass of water and drink it.

Note

Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a balanced diet. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children. Not recommended in cases of acute or recurrent herpes infections. If you are taking blood pressure medication or PDE5 inhibitors (e.g. sildenafil), or after a cardiovascular event, please consult a healthcare professional before use.

Liposomes – the special technology

Our liposomal technology changes the way nutrients are absorbed by the body.

Thanks to their special structure, liposomes encase the active ingredients they contain and protect them from being broken down in the digestive tract.

This allows nutrients to be transported to where they are needed – right into the cells.

The result is increased bioavailability: a larger proportion of the active ingredient reaches the bloodstream unchanged and is actually available to the body.

Less loss, better absorption, more efficient use.

L-arginine and nitric oxide: a connection worthy of a Nobel Prize.

In 1998, the scientists Robert F. Furchgott, Louis J. Ignarro and Ferid Murad were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the importance of nitric oxide (NO) as a signalling molecule in the body.

L-Arginine is the only amino acid from which the body can produce nitric oxide (NO). This process takes place in the endothelium, the inner layer of the blood vessel walls. As a semi-essential amino acid, L-Arginine can be synthesised by the body itself, but during certain stages of life, with increased physical activity or with advancing age, demand can exceed the body’s natural production.

Melinava provides pure, free-form L-Arginine in a liposomal formulation. The liposomal encapsulation protects the amino acid from being broken down by intestinal arginase and ensures that a greater proportion reaches the bloodstream.

Targeted, natural, effective.

Products that make a difference.

Safe & uncompromising.

Our products are regularly put through their paces. Every single batch is carefully checked by independent laboratories to ensure that only the best finds its way to you. Our products are developed with dedication in Europe and manufactured in state-of-the-art production facilities.

Only what really counts.

Every ingredient matters to us. Each one is carefully selected and tested, and comes from controlled cultivation. Our formulations contain premium active ingredients in pure form and phospholipids from European sunflowers.

Absolutely nothing to hide.

We pay careful attention not only to which ingredients make it into our formula, but also to which ones stay out: GMO-free, no allergens, no artificial additives, soya-, gluten- and lactose-free.

L-Arginine and the role of nitric oxide in the body.

L-arginine is the only precursor from which the endothelium of the vessel walls forms the messenger molecule nitric oxide (NO). This molecule plays an important role in vascular function and has to be continuously produced by the body from L-arginine.

If the endothelium does not have enough L-arginine available, the body's natural NO production may be limited. Targeted supplementation with L-arginine can help provide the body with sufficient amounts of this important amino acid precursor.

Who is Melinava L-Arginine for?

L-arginine is a supplement for people whose need for this semi-essential amino acid may exceed the body's natural synthesis. It is particularly interesting for:

  • Athletes and physically active people with increased amino acid requirements
  • People from middle age onwards, as the body's natural L-arginine production can decline with age
  • Vegans and vegetarians who want to top up their amino acid intake in a targeted way
  • Anyone who values an adequate intake of the NO precursor L-arginine in their diet

L-arginine and L-lysine: two amino acids in balance.

In the body, L-Arginine and L-Lysine use the same transport mechanism and are in a natural biochemical balance with each other. While L-Arginine is the only precursor of NO, L-Lysine is an essential amino acid and a natural component of collagen.

If you take L-Arginine as a supplement, you should also make sure you have an adequate supply of L-Lysine to maintain balance in the amino acid pool. Melinava offers both amino acids as separate liposomal formulations.

One capsule, many benefits.

Questions and answers.

L-arginine is a semi-essential (conditionally essential) amino acid with the highest nitrogen content of all proteinogenic amino acids. It is the only precursor from which the body can form the messenger substance nitric oxide (NO) in the endothelium of the blood vessel walls. This role was recognised with the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. L-arginine occurs naturally in pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, peanuts, walnuts, meat and fish. Although the body can synthesise L-arginine itself, its own production can decline with age or when requirements increase.

L-Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid that the body can synthesise itself, although the body's own production is not always sufficient during certain stages of life. Many people take L-arginine as a supplement, particularly as part of:

  • An active lifestyle with an increased need for amino acids
  • A targeted supply of the only NO precursor in the body
  • Amino acid supplementation from midlife onwards
  • A complete amino acid supply on a vegan or vegetarian diet
  • General wellbeing in everyday life

Melinava L-Arginine contains pure L-arginine in its free, unbound form, i.e. not as AAKG.

AAKG stands for arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, a compound of arginine and alpha-ketoglutarate used in some food supplements. Studies show that the supposedly better effect does not materialise, as AAKG is split back into arginine and alpha-ketoglutarate in the body. As a result, AAKG provides less pure arginine per dose.

Liposomal formulations have the advantage of higher bioavailability than conventional food supplements. This is particularly relevant for L-arginine, as an enzyme produced by the body, intestinal arginase, breaks down a considerable proportion of orally ingested L-arginine in the gut before it reaches the bloodstream.

The liposomal shell encloses the L-arginine in a protective phospholipid layer and carries the amino acid directly through the intestinal wall, protecting it from enzymatic breakdown. As a result, a smaller amount of liposomal L-arginine can supply the body more effectively than considerably larger amounts in conventional form.

Another advantage: L-arginine and L-lysine use the same transporter in the gut. In liposomal form, L-arginine bypasses this competition, which is particularly relevant for people who take both amino acids as supplements at the same time.

Melinava L-Arginine should preferably be stored in a cool (below 25°C), dry place, protected from light.

Within the recommended dosage, L-arginine is well tolerated by adults.

Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Not recommended in cases of acute or recurring herpes infections (in this case, its counterpart, L-lysine, is preferable). If you are taking blood-pressure-lowering medication or PDE5 inhibitors, or after a cardiovascular event, please consult a healthcare professional before use.

Experiences with food supplements vary from person to person and depend on factors such as age, lifestyle, diet and dosage. Due to the high L-arginine content per capsule, Melinava L-Arginine is particularly well suited to a course of supplementation. We recommend taking it regularly over a period of at least 6 to 8 weeks.
